Academic and Professional Experience

-1991- Tel-Aviv University, Tel-Aviv, Israel; Department of Electrical Engineering-System

(Full Professor; Department Chair (07’-11

Industrial experience

1999-2012 SanDisk (till 06’)  M-systems, acquired by SanDisk), Chief Scientist, Engineering Fellow (the highest engineering title in the company

-2012-StoreDot (www.store-dot.com), Co-founder, CSO (Chief Strategy Officer), Director

StoreDot’s flash battery - an instant-charging battery - serves as a highly dense energy sponge that soaks up enough power in just 5 minutes. The batteries are designed for use in electric vehicles and mobile devices. The company raised $135M in three financing rounds.

2019- Sparkion, Consultant

Energy storage solutions based on use of second-life batteries.

Education

1979-1982 Leningrad Electrotechnical Institute (LETI), Leningrad, USSR

(Degree: Ph.D. in electrical engineering (82

1974-1979 Perm Polytechnical Institute (PPI), Perm, USSR;

(Degree: M.Sc. (summa cum lauda) in electrical engineering (79

Academic and Professional Awards

1992 Guastalla Fellowship, Rashi Foundation, Israeli Academy of Sciences

2006 x4 NAND flash technology recognized as the ”Most Innovative Flash Memory Technology” of the year at the Flash Memory Summit, the technology was the main reason behind acquisition of M-systems by Sandisk in 2006 for 1.6 billion dollars

2007 SanDisk Engineering Fellow, the company’s highest technical position

2010 Special Prize for Exceptional Achievements in Science, State of Israel.

2010 Personal Chair (Cathedra) at Tel Aviv University

2015 IEEE Reynold B. Johnson Storage Systems Award and Medal (with Dov Moran and Amir Ban) for pioneering contributions to storage systems based on flash memory: https://www.ieee.org/about/awards/bios/johnson-info-recipients.html

Quoting Wikipedia (http://ethw.org/Simon_Litsyn): The innovations of Dov Moran, Amir Ban, and Simon Litsyn, while working at M-Systems, drove the creation of the USB flash drive, the world’s most popular portable memory device. Prof. Litsyn introduced signal processing techniques that provided increased storage density to significantly reduce the cost of flash memory devices. The original USB flash drive, called DiskOnKey, was introduced by M-Systems in 2000 and quickly replaced the floppy disk for storing and transferring data. M-Systems was acquired by SanDisk in 2006.

2015 Honorary Professorship of Perm National Technical University, Russia.

2018 Prize for lifetime achievements of the Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, State of Israel
