New laboratory at the Department of Industrial Engineering

We are glad to announce the opening of the Big Data Lab at the Department of Industrial Engineering at Tel Aviv University.

User data is doubtlessly the fuel that drives modern economy. The ability to collect, process and utilize this data on a large scale, a trend known as Big Data, lies at the very root of many services, such as Google, Amazon, Facebook and Netflix. And yet, despite the great promise engendered by this trend, many questions and issues arise with regard to information security and user privacy.

The Big Data Lab is a research facility headed by Dr. Erez Shmueli, at TAU's Industrial Engineering Department. Research at the Laboratory focuses on the two complementary aspects of Big Data indicated above. This focus is manifested in research in a variety of fields, such as complex networks, computational aspects of the social sciences, machine learning, recommender systems, databases, information security and privacy.
